Who is the Current Indian Chief of Defence Staff?

The government has determined to select General Bipin Rawat, as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) with impact from December 31, 2019, and till more orders and increase in service of General Bipin Rawat with December 31, 2019, and till such time he continues the position of CDS.

The role of responsibilities of the CDS:

The Chief of Defence Staff would create synergy in services and investments for all three armed forces.
The acquisition of military facilities for all three armed forces would be one of the key obligations of the CDS.
The officer would act as the sole advisor to the government on all military subjects as per the Kargil Review Committee in 1999.
A Chief of Defence Staff would be the Principal Military Adviser to the Defence Minister on tri-services things.
CDS will be a part of Defence Acquisition Council and Defence Planning Committee.
The officer would also work to bring in seamless coordination in services, logistics, transport, training, support services, information, repairs, and maintenance, The 3 services within 3 years of the first CDS accumulating a position.
